This changes everything for us – sort of

With the mobile world going iPhone mad a lot of things are changing in how best to present websites for mobile devices.
Yes, you have to think about the iPhone, Blackberry, Android, blah blah blah.
But, with a hugely popular handset like the iPhone, created by the pioneering Apple, comes a certain amount of standardisation and simplicity for getting it right when wanting to create great and accessible mobile content.
With the future looking good for web standards and great innovations like HTML5 and CSS3 (the modern and standard languages used to put websites together) – it is going to be even more interesting and possible to create cool things that work on all mobile platforms and modern browsers.
Although a very small site and not really even adding much more value than the desktop version at the present time, we’ve put together a cool little mobile version of latteperday.com that works great on both the iPod Touch and the iPhone. Anyone on one of those devices visiting latteperday.com in the safari browser will be automatically redirected to our mobile site.
Although mainly an experiment, this opens a lot of doors for us and the possibilities for creating cool web applications and content both for mobiles and computers.

Putting a mobile site together is a lot of fun but also requires duplicating content or summarising things on the main site, either manually or automatically. Using the Jqtouch framework is one great way to make this a reality.

The mobile site goes full screen to make it feel like a native mobile app
By users visiting the site on their iPhone and then pressing the “+” in Safari, and then “add to homescreen”, it’s possible to bookmark the site on the iPhone home screen. An icon appears and even a loading page when the site is launched making the website feel like a native mobile app downloaded from itunes.

Yes that is an iPhone 4 by the way!
It feels and looks like a native app even in landscape mode.
What does this change for us?
Quite a lot really. It means we can now create some cool running web apps that work both on the computer browser and in your mobile phone.
This will be cool for us but will also benefit small businesses as we want to start on some tools that will benefit you and small businesses everywhere.
If you have any needs to be fulfilled by a mobile or web app that will make your life easier when running your small business then please let us know! We’d love to hear what problems you would like to solve.
